THE KIND OF CHURCH THAT PLEASES JESUS

1 Thessalonians 1:1-10

Introduction:     (Eph 5:25)  "... Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;"  Jesus loves the church (He was born to birth the church, He bled to begin the church, He died to deliver the church, He rose to redeem the church, He ascended to empower the church. One day He's coming to claim the church!  (Illust. 16 yr. old boy "going to get more flowers") Jesus loves the church more than that! Isn't it a shame when the church disappoints Him? Imagine Jesus here at Southside in person to examine our church. If Jesus was to record a report of our church, would you want to read it? Jesus had recorded a report on this church in Thessalonica. What kind of church pleases Jesus? A church that pleases Jesus has:

I.          EXPERIENCED SALVATION  (v.1)  (Jn.15:19 in world not of world)  in the Lord Jesus Christ.  3 marks of salvation

            A.        The Mark of Action  (v.3a)   (Illust. "hog hunting")

            B.         The Mark of Affection  (v.3b)  (Motivation - because we love the Lord)

            C.        The Mark of Anticipation  (v.3c)   (We know He's coming)

II.         EXISTS TO SERVE    (How do we serve? By:)

            A.        Encouraging the Saints  (v.2)

            B.         Example to Society  (v.6,7)  (Followers = models) 2:11,12 ; 4:7 ; 5:22 ("Abstain" = hold yourself, restrain. Don't let anything come into your life that someone else might misunderstand.)

            C.        Exhorters of the Scriptures  (v.6,8) 2:4 (God has trusted us to tell the truth)

            D.        Evangelist to the Sinners  (v.8)  (Blowing the trumpet of the gospel) 146,000 lost people die every 24 hours

III.       EXPECTS THE SAVIOR  ( TO SHOW UP)  (V.10)

            A.        Looking for Him

            B.         Longing for Him

            C.        Living for Him

Conclusion:       I don't know what he's gonna say, but thank God I'm going to hear it! One of these days we going to be there!
