A LIFE THAT COUNTS

I Timothy 1: 1-4

Introduction:     The Apostle Paul knew the importance of passing the great doctrines of the church on to the next generation (expound the importance of passing on the doctrines of the faith on to the next generation). In this series of messages we will learn, not only what our lives are to be like, but also what our churches are to be like.  If we are to have Churches that count for God, then we need individual lives that count for God. If our life is to count for God then we will need to:

I.                    LEAN ON GOD  (V.1)

Not on ability or talent. The danger of talent and ability is leaning on that talent or ability. Paul had tremendous intellect, but he did not lean on his intellect, he leaned on God. What is involved in leaning on God?

A.                 Involves Brokenness – “Paul” = little

B.                 Involves Yielded ness – “Apostle” = one who is sent forth.

C.                 Involves Gladness  -  “My Savior, my Lord, my hope”

II.                 FOCUS ON ETERNITY  (V.2)

A.                 Eternal Relationships  - (II Tim.1:5)

B.                 Eternal Resources  -  “Grace, mercy, peace

III.               STAY ON TASK  (V.3)  -  “Abide still”

Your life will never count for God until you get in there and hang in there long enough for God to use you. Things are not worth having without cost. People today want God’s blessing without the cost. (Ills. Ray J wanting to quit football … we don’t quit things we’ve started).

IV.              MAJOR ON GROWING  (V.4) -  “Godly edifying”

Study the Bible with the intent to grow you faith. Know what you believe and why you believe it!

Conclusion:       Do you want a life that counts for Christ? Then follow these simple principles.
