YOU CANNOT SIN AND WIN!
  2 Samuel 12:1-7a

(Rom 5:8)  "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Illus. little girl's first trip to the doctor-Jesus is in my heart!)

Introduction:     If Jesus is in your heart you are a saved sinner. Saved from the penalty of sin, but not the presence of sin. You may not bare sin but you battle sin. Your sin cannot send you to hell, but it will send hell to you! Un-confessed sin is the most dangerous thing in the life of the Christian. Just ask King David. He fell into sin and discovered that "The Price Of Sin Never Goes On Sale". This is the story of a man after God's own heart that broke God's heart! It is not the story of David the Shepherd, the Singer, or the Soldier, but David the Sinner. Un-confessed sin is the most dangerous thing in the life of the Christian! It will steal your strength - sour your sweetness - hinder your holiness - wipe out your witness - flatten your faith - fissile your fire - and tear-up your testimony! The next step in Revival is "turning from our wicked ways" (2 Chron.7: 14b).
Three statements concerning sin:

I.          THE CRIME OF COVERING SIN
(One wrong movement in one wrong moment can ruin a lifetime of right living!)

            A.        The Type Of People Who Sin.  (2 Sam.11)

                        1.         The Un-disciplined.  (v.1)

                        2.         The Un-busy.  (Lazy Christians)  (v.2a)

I have discovered the lazy get in trouble. David had an Elvis schedule, up all night and slept all day.

                        3.         The Un-suspecting.  (v.2b)

If this happened to David it can happen to anyone. (Story of Samson = the bigger they are the harder they fall. - David tells me the higher they are the farther they fall.)

            B.         The Terrible Power of Sin  (2 Sam.11: 5-24)  (read verse 5)
David now thinks, "I've got to cover this thing." He has to have a plan. So he plans:

                        1.         Plan A  (vv.6-11) - he calls Uriah home.

                        2.         Plan B  (v.13) - gets him drunk.

                        3.         Plan C  (v.14) - "I'll have to kill him now." / Folks this is David!

                                    a.   The Murder  (v.15)

                                    b.   The Message  (v.24) - David thinks it's all over now, but he forgets Num.32: 23. (Illus. man and woman and chicken box)

II.         THE COST OF CONCEALING SIN
David having now covered his sin, try's to keep it secret.  What will it cost?

            A.        The Communion Of Heaven  (vv.26, 27)
(Psa 66:18)  "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:" The thing that David had done "Displeased the Lord". "Displeased" = evil in God's sight. God knows all about us. What is secret in your heart is open scandal in heaven.

            B.         The Continment Of Heart  (Ps.51: 1-10; 12,13)
David is miserable! What is the good in this? God loves us so much that He deals with us when we sin.

                        1.         God will Chase you.

                        2.         God will Catch you.

                        3.         God will Correct you. (If you don't heed the correction:)

                        4.         God may Kill you.

Many believe that the death angel was in the palace that day (2 Sam.12: 13). David learned that repentance is hard, but it sure feels good to come clean with God!

III.       THE CONSEQUENCES OF COMMITTING SIN

            A.        The Revelation Of Sin
What was concealed was revealed.

            B.         The Reaping Of Sin

                        1.         Law of the harvest  (Gal.6: 7,8)

You reap WHAT you sow, LATER than you sow, and MORE than you sow.

                        2.         David becomes a prophet  (v.6)

Four-fold:  (1) The baby died (12:13),   (2) Tamar raped by Amnon (13:14),   (3) Amnon killed by Absalom (13:28),   (4) Absalom sought to overthrow David's kingdom and was killed by Joab (18:1-15).

Conclusion:       The price of sin never goes on sale! You cannot sin and win. 2 Chron. 7:14 says, "turn from their wicked ways" then, we'll have REVIVAL
