JESUS IS PERFECTLY SUFFICIENT
Colossians 1:15-23

Introduction:     From the very beginning of Christianity people have tried to add to the work of salvation provided by Jesus,  -  (Acts 15:1)  "And certain men which came down from Judea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved."  -  All that is needed for eternal salvation is Jesus! Nothing more, nothing less! After declaring the marvelous results of salvation, he then affirms how this vital, miraculous, eternal truth is brought to bear in our lives by showing us why Jesus is all sufficient for salvation. The salvation provided by Jesus is perfectly sufficient because Jesus is perfectly sufficient. What makes Jesus perfectly sufficient?

I.          HIS SUPERIORITY (VV.15-18)

            A.        The Person He Reveals (v.15a)

            B.         The Position He Holds (v.15b)

            C.        The Power He Possesses (owns) (v.16)

1. His Creating Power (Jn.1:3)

The spectrum of its vastness:

The earth is 7,927 miles in diameter at the equator - Our sun which is the nearest star is 865,400 miles in diameter.

If the sun had a hole in it, you could put 1,200,000 earths in it and have room for 4,300,000 of our moons.

The star An tares could hold 64 million suns the size of ours and there is a star in the constellation Hercules that could contain one hundred million stars the size of An tares.

The earth circles the sun at an average distance of 93 million miles and at a speed of 67,000 miles per hour. The earth’s surface area encompasses 196,949,970 sq. miles of which 1/3 is water.

The star Beetle Juice is 880 quad-drillion miles away from earth.

The spectrum of its smallness:

An atom is the smallest unit of an element that retains all of the elements properties.

A carbon atom measures about 0.14 na-no-meter across & 1n.m. is one billionth of a meter, or one millionth of a millimeter.

If the molecules of a single drop of water could be converted into grains of sand, there would be enough sand to build a road 1/2 mile wide and 1 foot thick all the way from N.Y. to San Francisco .

2. His Cohering Power (v.17)

The Milky Way has 200 billion stars banded together by what science calls gravity, and our galaxy is only one of billions in the universe.

            D.        The Preeminence He Deserves (v.18)

II.         HIS SIGNIFICANCE (V.19)

A.        Bringing Contentment

Pleased - stresses the willingness and freedom of an intention or resolve of what is good - to take pleasure in.

B.         Bringing Competition

Fullness = completeness - In reference to Jesus - grace, truth - (John 1:16-18) "And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. {17} For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. {18} No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him." - (Eph 4:13) "Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:"

III.       HIS SACRIFICE (VV.20-23)

            A.        The Blood Of His Cross (vv.20-21)

Justified - (Rom 3:24 ) "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:" - (Rom 5:9) "Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him."

Redeemed - (Eph 1:7) "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;" - (Heb 9:12 ) “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us."

Reconciled - (Eph 2:13 ) "But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ." - (Eph 2:16) "And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:"

Forgiven - 1 Jn.1:7

Cleansed - 1 Jn.1:9

            B.         The Body of His Flesh (vv.22-23)

Conclusion:       Jesus is perfectly sufficient in all because of His Superiority, His Significance, and His Sacrifice. All this so that we might be reconciled to God and be presented perfect before Him - that we might worship and praise Him and live forever with Him. All to the glory of Jesus Christ our Lord!
