THE
WORLD WITHOUT GOD Introduction: The Bible does not teach evolution rather it
teaches devolution. I.
THE DIRECTION OF THE HUMAN RACE (VV.16-17) Where
is the human race headed?
A.
Moving Away From Deity
(v.16) ·
Cain
leaves every influence of good: The place of worship – his parents. ·
This
is the direction of many today.
B.
Moving Toward Destruction
(v.17) ·
“Nod”
= wandering. (Illus: people without God are restless, unhappy and
discontent). ·
Cain
had a family (misery loves company). ·
“Enoch”
(expound the devil’s counterfeits). II.
THE DEPRAVITY OF
THE HUMAN RACE (VV.18-24)
A.
Practice Dead Religion
(v.18) When
God is expelled from society there is not an absence of religion it’s
just dead! Notice Irad’s two sons – both names end in “el” the O.
T. name for God. (Illus: today people want religion without repentance;
heaven without hell; happiness without holiness). In these last days the
gap will get wider and wider.
B.
Reject Godly Values
(v.19) Lamach
rejected the values of God. There is a wholesale rejection of biblical
values in our society today!
C.
Worship Outward Attractiveness
(v.19) Society without God focuses on the outward
(appearance). “Adah” = ornament (beauty). “Zillah” =
shade (the color of her hair or completion). Here is a man who worships
the attractiveness of the flesh. (Illus: we worry all the time about the
outside while God looks on the heart).
D.
Miss The Source Of True Satisfaction
(vv.20-22) Notice
the offspring of Cain’s descendants. These are men who say, “I’ll
find life in the arts and other things
of this world.” Many of the things in this world are fine, but don’t
worship what God has created, worship the God who created these things.
E.
Brag About Their Own Self-Sufficiently
(vv.23-24) He
is saying, “I don’t need God, I’ll handle this on my own.” “I
can do a better job with justice that God can anyway.” That is what the
world is saying today. III.
THE DOOM OF THE
HUMAN RACE (Between V.24 & V.25) The
human race without God is doomed and damned to hell! Chapter 5 records
Able’s descendants ending with death. None of Cain’s descendants are
mentioned because they are already dead (Eph.2:1).
IV.
THE DELIVERANCE OF
THE HUMAN RACE (VV.25-26) “Seth”
= appointed. Jesus Christ was appointed to come and die to redeem fallen
man. “Enos”
= mortal. We’re just mortal beings so we’re going to depend on God. “Then
began men to call upon the name of the Lord.” That’s what we’ll
do! Though the entire world forsake Him we’ll call upon the name of the
Lord. If you’re lost you’ve got to call upon the name of the Lord to
be saved! Christians need to call upon the name of the Lord for revival! Conclusion: A world without God is a scary
place it’s dog eat dog, everyone for themselves. But, in this Book I
read about a man who came not to please Himself. He didn’t come to kill,
but to be killed so I could be free. All the days of my life I’ll follow
that man, Jesus.
