CHRISTMAS IN A NUTSHELL

John 3:16

Introduction:   Christmas is many things to many people. Some have sought to define Christmas. If Christmas isn’t found in your heart you won’t find it under the tree. The most eloquent of all statements, the most definitive of all sayings concerning Christmas and in fact one that summarizes the entire Word of God is John 3:16!  Christmas in a nutshell is the manifestation of the love of God in a body of human flesh to save a lost and dying world. Christmas is all about the love of God! There are some many wonderful things in the verse about the love of God.

I.          THE LOVE OF GOD IS UNEQUALED

There is no love that equals God’s love. It is without competition! God’s love is unequaled because:

            A.        It Is Spontaneous (“God so loved”)

There was nothing in us to bring out the love of God into our hearts. God doesn’t just love, He is love! (1 John 4:8)  "He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love."

(1 John 4:16)  "And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love..."

            B.        It Is Universal (“the world”)

There is no one in this world that God does not love. Who does God love…expound!

            C.        It Is Sacrificial (“that He gave”)

God does not wink at sin. God’s love is pure! God’s holiness and justice has to be satisfied. That, my friend, is why He was incarnate in flesh and born of a virgin the perfect sinless Son of God to provide the sacrifice for sinful man. The love of God brought a baby into the world for one reason. God says, “I am Holy and I’m Just, but I’m also a God of love and if I’m going to be free to love sinners, someone has got to take sin on their back for them and die in there place.” That is why there is a Christmas!

II.         THE LOVE OF GOD IS UNLIMITED

            A.        The Nature Of His Gift (“only begotten Son”)

“Only begotten” = of the same essence of God; the same nature of God; the same divinity of God. Jesus was not created in that manger, He was manifested there! God so loved the world that He gave the best He had!

            B.        The Nature Of Our Gift

God gave His best. As a believer can I give Him less? (Ills. giving God the leftovers…)

III.       THE LOVE OF GOD IS UNDERSERVED

            A.        What Person Can Receive (“that whosoever believeth”)

            B.        What Person To Believe (“in Him”)

IV.       THE LOVE OF GOD IS UNENDING

Conclusion:    This Christmas, since God gave you His best, would you give your best to Him!
