WAITING, BUT WATCHING
Luke 12:35-40

(Luke 19:12-13)  "He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. {13} And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come."

Introduction:     Jesus will come again! Until He does, what are we to be doing? Our Lord instructs us to occupy this world until He comes. When Jesus returns what should we be found doing? How are we to wait? How are we to watch?

I.     AN ACTIVE WATCH (VV. 35-37a)

A.        We Should Be Found Witnessing (V.35)

·        Un-cumbered and enthusiastic (what are we to be ready and eager to do?)

·        Let our light shine (Mat.25:7-8) - Lamp = profession of faith. Oil = Holy Spirit. Light = testimony (the witness of the gospel of Jesus Christ).

·        When Jesus comes back may we be found witnessing! Not talking about people, but talking to people about the Lord Jesus Christ!

            B.         We Should Be Found Watching (VV.36-37a)

What does it mean to watch? Having Confidence In His Coming (v.36) – When He comes. Not if He comes.

II.    AN AWARDED WATCH (V. 37b-38)

A.        We Should Be Found Consistent In Conduct (vv.37)
The reward for watching – Served by Jesus Himself.

B.         We Should Be Found Constant In Continuance (v.38)

They watched a long time – 2nd Watch = 9 PM-12 AM . 3rd Watch = 12 AM – 3 AM . (Illus: Watching through the good times and bad). We have been watching for 2000 years.

III.    AN ALERT WATCH (VV. 39-40)

A.        We Should Be Found Cautious Of Consequences (v.39)

B.         We Should Be Found Cautious In Commitment (v.40)

Conclusion:       Jesus is coming! If He comes today what will He find you doing?
