Introduction:
Christ
and his disciples, are coming from the coasts of Judea, beyond Jordan, in
their way to Jerusalem; where Christ met with Zaccheus and converted him,
and after some short stay at his house, departed thence; and come into
Jericho. One might say He was just passing through, but He wasn’t He was
PASSING BY.
And "He Is Still Passing By Today!
I.
HIS DESTITUTE
CONDITION. (V.46-47)
·
The
word "destitute" means: Not having or possessing; wanting; as destitute of
food and clothing. Needy; comfortless; friendless.
·
What a
perfect description of the sinner (Rom.3) “What then? Are we better than
they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that
they are all under sin; 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no,
not one:
A.
Physically He Was Blind.
·
This
man was blind he could not see, the sinner is blind to the gospel he can not
see.
The bible says in (2 Co 4:4)
“In whom the god of this world
hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the
glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”
·
The
sinner can not understand the ways, the works, the word or the worship of
God in their lost condition.
(1 Co 2:14) “But the natural man receiveth not
the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither
can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
·
The
sinner is Blind to the gospel so we must shine to them;
(Mt 5:16)
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good
works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
B.
Financially He Was A Beggar.
Here we see this man destitution financially, and
a picture of the sinner. Sinner friend you will be a beggar here or a beggar
there. (The rich man and Lazarus)
C.
Socially He Was
Banished.
Notice (V.46)
"...and as he went out of
Jericho with his disciples..."
·
Here
we see this blind beggar, banished he is "outside the city" society did not
want any such people seen or around.
·
Notice
we were Banished we were outside of the promises and covenants given to the
Israelites. We were "without Christ" we were "aliens and strangers" having
no hope, and without God in the world: 13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who
sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. I’m no longer
an orphan someone has rescued me!!!
D.
Notice
Spiritually He Was
Broken.
·
He had
never met Jesus.
The blind sinner must come to the place of
brokeness before there will be help. (Ps 34:18)
“The LORD is nigh unto them
that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
·
The
sinner must realize his destitute condition and respond when Jesus is
passing by.
II. HIS
DISPREAD CRY.
(V.47 & 48)
III. HIS
DELIVERANCE
CALAMITY. (V.49b-52)
A.
There
Is A Command And A Calling. (V.49b)
B.
There
Is A Casting Away. (V.50)
1. In the casting away of that garment is a
picture of the sinner casting away of the old life of sin.
2. Sinner you will never get saved until you get
tired of sin, and want to get saved more than you want your sin! You are
going to have to see your sin exceeding sinful. (Ro 7:13) Was then that
which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear
sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment
might become exceeding sinful.
C.
There
Was A Coming. (V. 50b-52)
Conclusion:
Jesus is passing by you today! As you His Commanding and Calling
will you Cast away that sin and COME???
