DESTINED TO WIN
Romans 8:26-34

Introduction:     Every born again believer has the hope of eternal life in that land that is fairer than day. But, this passage of Scripture teaches us that though we win in the end, we are winners with Christ Jesus right now! Your outcome in life doesn’t depend on your income, but on how you overcome! How do I know that we are destined to win? Because of:

I.          THE COMPASSIONATE INTEREST OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (VV.26-27)

            A.        The Personality Of The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is not just a power; the Holy Spirit is a person who is powerful! Many cults say the Holy Spirit is a energy or force – The Bible says He is a Person.

·        The Holy Spirit helps – only a person can help.

·        The Holy Spirit prays – only a person can pray.

·        The Holy Spirit intercedes – only a person can intercede.

·        The Holy Spirit groans – only a person can groan.

·        The Holy Spirit searches (v.27) – only a person can search.

I need to understand that the Holy Spirit is not an it or a force, but a person He is divinity He is God without body! You must comprehend who the Holy Spirit is if He is to give you victory.

            B.         The Practical Work Of The Holy Spirit

What does the Holy Spirit do for us? Helps or infirmities – pictures one who comes along side to carry a part of the load.

            C.        The Prayer Ministry Of The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit Prays for us – “Intercession” = a word of rescue; one who comes and intervenes in our difficulties. (Illus: the wonderful thing about this is that sometimes when you’re praying you do not have to speak a word; as the Holy Spirit intercedes He anoints your tears so that God understands what you’re saying. He can anoint your groans, your aches, and you pains. What a comfort! This helps me to know that I’m going to win because even when I don’t know what or how to pray the Holy Spirit of God is in me praying for me.

II.         THE CONTROLLING PROVIDENCE OF GOD (VV.28-30)

It is scary to think of life without control. Even when you’re tempted to think God is not there He is always in control!

            A.        Is Based In The Omniscience Of God

God has an eternal purpose. (Illus: pieces of the puzzle – seeing the big picture)

(Illus: the potters wheel – the center of the wheel is the center of God’s will)

B.         Is Based In The Omnipotence Of God

The whole point of these verses is this: In Jesus, we are absolutely secure! Why? Notice:

1. Verse 28 tells us that God is working out His purpose in us. What is that purpose? He is making us in the image of Jesus. Why do all that work and then throw us away?

2. Verse 29 tells us that God has already decided that we will be like Jesus some day. It is a done deal!

3. Verse 30 uses several words to speak of our journey. And, every one of them is in the "aorist tense" in the Greek and this tense is roughly equivalent to our past tense. Notice:

bulletWe were predestinated - Past tense.
bulletWe were called - Past tense
bulletWe were justified - (Ill. To declare righteous!) - Past tense.
bulletWe were glorified - Past tense - In the mind of God, we are already with Him in Heaven, Eph. 2:6, and we are already sinless, and we are already glorified. We are as good for Heaven as if we were already there!

III.       THE CONSTANT INTERCESSION OF JESUS (VV.31-34)

            A.        Secured By The Labor Of Christ (vv.31-33)

·        His Interest In Us (v.31) - His interest is seen in the fact that He loved us before time began and formulated a plan to bring us to Himself. He knew us, yet He loved us and made a way for us to be saved by His grace. That is proof that He is interested in each of us.

·        His Investment In us (v32) - Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. He made the ultimate investment in you and me. He laid down His life for those He loved.

·        His Intentions For Us (v.33) - His intentions for each of us is to bring us home to glory and nothing will stop that from taking place. We will be with Him in that land.

            B.         Secured By The Life Of Christ (v.34)

·        The Price He Paid On The Cross

·        The Power He Displayed At The Tomb

·        The Position He Holds At The Throne

Conclusion:       We will never get the workings of salvation figured out while we are in this world, but we sure can enjoy the end result even now because we are destined to win. If you are saved, praise God and know that you will be saved forever and one day you will be like Jesus. If you are not saved, know this, if you have the desire to be saved you can be saved. That desire is the Spirit of God calling you to come. If you feel that tug today, then come to Jesus and be saved.
